THE APPRENTICES
The Game Changing Kingdom

Today's Message:
'counter culture kingdom'

These blessings strike us as very odd. On the one hand, they sound like good news—especially for those who are beaten, abandoned, down-and-out, hurt, weak, discouraged, and oppressed. On the other hand, the blessings completely invert the cultural norms of Jesus’ day and ours. We expect Him to declare the middle-class mantras of our time: “Blessed are the wealthy, for they have everything they need.” “Blessed are the healthy, for they will prevail in the struggle for survival.” “Blessed are the educated, for their knowledge gives them superior leverage.” “Blessed are the powerful, for they call the shots.” “Blessed are the famous, for they always have admirers.” But Jesus sees greater blessing in qualities we usually dismiss or avoid.

Humility is not an abject, defeated attitude. To the contrary, it recognizes the “divine image” in everyone and refuses to manipulate or exploit anyone. It springs from a profound sense of the Father’s sovereignty and a deep trust in His provision and love. It sees life as bigger and more than “me” and dedicates itself to “us.” It eschews the trivial honors that commonly divide us but respects all people for their greatest honor of all—being created in the image of God. And to the extent that we nurture this “poor in spirit” attitude we discover the secret of contentment and productivity.

About Us

Our Vision

Forum is becoming a mosaic of people striving to create a beautiful environment for the glory of God.

We want to be a kingdom of God centered ministry. The kingdom of God exists for all people. In the very first sermon that Scott Sutherland, lead minister, preached at Forum he spoke of a church that looks like heaven: a church that touches all nations, all economic strata, and a church of beauty and excellence. That’s what heaven looks like. Forum is a biblically centered ministry that loves God and strives to connect people to God. As a ministry, these are some elements that drive our approach to achieving this dream:

We Value

1.  God and where He is at work. We aggressively and intentionally join God where He is working.

2.  God’s word.

3.  You, your family, and this community are valuable to God.

4.  Diversity – all people are welcome. This diversity spans to the arts and an eclectic approach to our weekly worship.

5.  Youth and children. As a church we have staffed toward building up young people. Our desire is to transform a community by raising up great kids.

6.  Small groups. People learn and grow best when they are connected to people and the Lord in a small group.

The Dream

What does God dream for the church – and how does Forum fit into this dream?

God designed the church to be an eclectic place. The very first word for the church is ecclesia which means, “the called out ones.” And who did God “call out?” People from every nation, every tribe, every tongue, every walk of life, every age group, people of wealth, people who live in poverty, and all in between. God calls people into this kingdom. We are an eclectic group with various talents, gifts, interests, passions, skill sets, expressions of self in worship, etc. As a stained glass window is comprised of various colors, bevels, and opaqueness — the goal of one of these windows is to create a beautiful environment using all of the above as a whole. We seek to be this kind of a community.
