Community Connection
Below you will find a few of the community efforts that Forum supports through volunteer service throughout the year. We believe in doing our part in the community, and we would love to have you join with us!
Show-Me State Games: To support the community in hosting the 30,000 athletes participating in more than 40 sports, Forum volunteers provide many hours of their time and effort during the Show-Me State Games and the Missouri State Senior Games. The volunteers do varied jobs from registration to score keeping.
Columbia Farmers Market: The Columbia Farmers Market takes place on Thursdays from 3 — 6 p.m. in the Forum South Campus parking lot. The mission of the Columbia Farmers Market is to provide both the local farmer and consumer a reliable, regulated marketplace for the direct exchange of high quality and safe food.
Loaves
and Fishes: The soup kitchen
supported by a number of Columbia faith based organizations provides an evening
meal for homeless and hungry individuals in the community. Forum volunteers assist by planning, preparing
and serving meals on the third Thursday of every month and the fifth Thursday,
at the kitchen located at the corner of Seventh and Park in the Columbia
Housing Authority apartment complex. Anyone wishing to help with this ministry, please contact the church office at 573.443.3900.
Salvation
Army Bell Ringing: Forum
volunteers provide support for the Salvation Army by ringing the bell at
several locations. The traditional red kettle is an integral part of the
Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy
families, seniors, and the homeless, in keeping with the spirit of the season. The mission of the Salvation Army
endeavors to bring spiritual light and love to those it serves throughout the
year.
MU
Football Concessions:
Rootin’
Tootin’ Chili Cookoff: Forum supports the Boys and Girls Club
and connects to our community by preparing chili and selling tastes of chili at
this event in February. The event
is attended by hundreds and generates considerable funds for the Boys and Girls
Club.
Habitat
for Humanity:
Emergency
Shelter: The Forum Family Life
Center is a designated Red Cross Emergency Shelter to provide housing for
families and individuals in case of local or national disaster.
Building for Better Living: Forum has partnered with the local television series, Building for Better Living. This series documents the construction of a new home in Columbia. The show is for anyone interested in following the entire process of home construction.
Humpty Dumpty Christian Co-op Preschool: Humpty Dumpty, a parent-owned cooperative established in 1966, is located at Forum Christian Church. The school for three and four year old children meets from September to May. Humpty’s vision statement states: By engaging in hands-on learning and play, each child will grow in the likeness of God while developing their individual strengths and talents. Through shared involvement, each parent will have the opportunity to serve and together in partnership we can positively enhance each child’s first educational experience. For additional information contact Humpty Dumpty Christian Co-op Preschool, c/o Forum Christian Church, 3900 Forum Blvd, Columbia, MO 65203. (573) 443-3900 Ext. 242 or visit the Humpty Dumpty Web site.
Aktion Club: Aktion Club was created about five years ago as a service organization for a special group of Columbia residents. They have been active City of Columbia volunteers by participating several years in Cleanup Columbia. You might also see their Adopt-A-Spot beautification bed at the corner of Paris & Hinkson, just east of College Avenue.
