iRock — Intentionally Reaching Out to Christ's Kids

iRock's elementary ministry serves children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. We want kids to discover and embrace a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We know that kids are full of energy and are less inhibited to make their faith their own by telling their friends about Jesus. By teaching, worshiping, and having times of fellowship, iRock kids have the opportunity to get pumped up about Jesus Christ, our Savior and friend. We want iRock kids to make strong impacts for Jesus in their communities and within their family and friend groups. Kids have short attention spans, but that's what we love about them! By using high-energy worship, small groups, prayer time and more, we hope to instill a lasting impression of Jesus to the iRock kids we come into contact with.

/files/iRock/3BasicTruths- Small.jpgWe are very excited to operate on Sunday mornings using the curriculum strategy of 252 Basics. The strategy for teaching elementary students is based on Luke 2:52- "Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." From this core scripture, 252 Basics wants to teach kids three basic truths (see left). 252 Basics operates on a three-year rotation of 150 Bible stories specifically chosen for the elementary age level as well as 36 virtues that emulate the character of God and Jesus Christ. Spending four weeks on one virtue, the kids will have these concepts impressed upon their minds so they can have stronger faith and make a difference in their world. Since many kids form their entire idea of who God is and choose whether or not to have a relationship with him before leaving 5th grade, it is vital that we have a purposeful plan in leading them to a reliable and real faith in Jesus Christ. At Forum Christian Church within the iRock ministry, we are so excited to partner with 252 Basics in this strategy for reaching kids in His name. Click here to learn more about 252 Basics.

Along with this great Bible teaching model for Sunday mornings, 252 Basics offers several great resources to connect what's being taught at church with what happens spiritually in the home. GodTime and Fridge Door cards are offered each week to the family. GodTime cards provide each child with four individual days of a simple devotion and activity that can be done on their own or with a parent/guardian. Fridge Door cards are a resource for parents and guardians to use during the week. They feature all of the top components from each Sunday's lesson and a discussion question is available. These resources can be accessed in three ways:
    1. Picking them up on Sunday morning near the iRock sign-in area (Room 115)
    2. E-mail- Please send the Children's Director an e-mail if you would like to receive these resources weekly
    3. Downloading these PDF files from the bottom of the Family Resource page

Another great resource provided through 252 Basics are Family Times Virtue Packs. These are once a month kits that will work off of what is being taught for the month on Sunday mornings for use in your home. We are in agreement with 252 Basics that what happens at home is way more important than what happens at church. Family Times Virtue Packs are an easy and convenient way to spiritually lead your children throughout the month. Family Times are divided into four different times in a family's life: Morning Time, Meal Time, Drive Time, and Bed Time. Family Times Virtue Packs come with resources to help parents lead at each of these key times in the life of their family. For about $10-12 per month, families can subscribe to receive these packs in the mail. For more information on Family Times Virtue Packs, click here.

The virtue for the month of March is HONESTY- Choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do
Visit 252 Basics Web site to watch a preview video of the month's virtue.
March 7- When you're not truthful, you hurt the people you should care about most. (Joseph's brothers lied to Jacob)
March 14- Lying to hurt someone else really hurts you. (Haman's plot to destroy the Jews)
March 21- Truthfulness builds friendships; dishonesty tears them down. (Jesus and Zacchaeus)
March 28- You can lie so much you forget what matters. (Judas' dishonesty)

    iRock at 9:45 (Sunday School)

Kindergarten through 5th grade students meet in Room 115 in the lower level of South campus just beyond the gym. We gather for large group worship, weekly communion, offering, introduction to the day, and announcements. Kids are dismissed to their small group classes and are escorted by their teachers. Within the small group class time, teachers will have the opportunity to bond with their students by sharing the Bible story with the kids, engaging in discussion, memory work, and prayer, as well as some fun games and activities that drive the lesson home. When the classes have concluded, the teachers escort their class back to Room 115 for parent pick up or remain in the room until Jr. Worship begins.

Kindergarten through 5th grade students meet in Room 115 in the lower level of South campus just beyond the gym. We gather for large group worship, memory work, weekly communion, offering, and prayer. Remaining a large group the for entire time, Jr. Worship is an hour jam packed full of fun. The same Bible story is presented in Sunday school and Jr. Worship by a live teacher. The kids in Jr. Worship get to experience the Bible story each week by watching a short 4-6 minute video resource from 252 Basics each week. Something different happens each week in Jr. Worship when it comes to activities, games, and review time. The kids wait in Room 115 until their parents arrive for pick up.

    iRock at North Campus

We are very excited to have an expanded ministry at Forum's North campus at the Hilton Garden Conference Center, Sundays at 11 a.m. We are currently offering care for Nursery and Preschool children at North campus. Both campuses follow the same lesson material in corresponding age groups each week to create unity between both our North and South campuses.

    A mini-series for Kindergarten through 5th grade
We'll be taking a look at eight people's lives that were transformed by encountering Jesus and we hope to be changed by him too!

    February 28- March 28
Sunday nights in Room 115 at South Campus

Throughout the course of this series, students are encouraged to pick up and add coins and dollars to their Son Fish Bank provided through the I.D.E.S. organization. The kids will turn in their banks on March 28 to wrap up the series. All of the collected funds will go toward helping the I.D.E.S. organization with disaster relief in Haiti. We hope our contributions will Transform lives through the name of Jesus Christ in Haiti.
